Hi Susan,

I guess the answer to your question would lie in how well you want to know God. If you are content to have your pastor know God well, and share his insights with you, you would just go to church and listen to his sermon. But, if you hunger for more of a personal relationship with God, He has provided His Word for those who want to get to know Him. God wants to be known by His children, but He gives us the freedom to choose.
